Where We're From

One of the reasons KUUJAN exists is to connect UUs from around Kentucky with one another. Towards these ends, this month's All Network Gathering on Wednesday, March 3, is focused on connection & conversation! Facilitated by Rev. Dawn Cooley, we will use the framework of a "Where I'm From" poem, a national endeavor that started in Kentucky, to get to know each other better.  RSVP here.

Our All Network Gatherings are the first Wednesday of every month.  All Unitarian Universalists in Kentucky are invited to these free, online gatherings.

Democracy Team Update

On Feb 18, several members of the Democracy Team participated in KFTC’s Virtual Lobby Day for a Healthy Democracy (KUUJAN was a co-sponsor of this event). We learned about, and lobbied for, proposed KY legislation that advocates for Voting Rights:

  • HB 232: voting rights for people with felonies in their past
  • HB 51: longer polling hours
  • HB 72: voting by mail
  • HB 182: automatic voter registration
  • HCR 61: fair redistricting

We enjoyed this collaborative experience, which included meeting people from all over the state that came together to work for a fair democracy!

Then, on Feb 24, several of us helped with KFTC’s phone bank efforts in support of HB 232 which would restore voting rights for people with felonies in their past.

Here is a link to current statuses of proposed legislative bills: https://kftc.org/bill-tracker.

You can leave messages for your own representative and senator, such as "please support HB 232 to restore voting rights to people with felonies in their past" by calling the Legislative Message Line at number is 800-372-7181

Our future plans include bringing programs to our congregants to help us become better politically engaged citizens, including the "Kentucky Civics 101" All Network Gathering on April 7.
